2,960 BiPSUnistas get education subsidy

2,960 college students from Biliran Province State University already received the Tertiary Education Subsidy (TES) and TES-Tulong Dunong Program (TES-TDP) for the Academic Year 2020-2021.

BiPSU which currently has the largest number of TES and TES-TDP grantees in the whole Eastern Visayas, was allocated with 34 Million funds.

Of this, Commission on Higher Education (CHED), through the Unified Student Financial Assistance System(UniFAST), has allocated 10 Million for the TES scholars of BiPSU; while the Office of Congressman Gerardo J. Espina Jr., through his congressional fund, also allocated 24 million for BiPSU's TES-TDP grantees.

Compared to the last Academic Year, the number of TES-TDP grantees increased by 133% from 1828 in A.Y 2019-2020 to 2435 in the recent A.Y. 2020-2021

According to BiPSU UniFAST focal person Shiela Salentes, the large increase of scholars in the university is attributed to the congressional fund allocated by Congressman Espina apart from the funding from CHED.

525 ongoing TES grantees received Php. 20,000 each for the second semester of the said school year.

On the other hand, 676 new TES-TDP grantees received Php 15,000 each for the 1st and 2nd semester, while the 1759 ongoing TES-TDP grantees received Php 7,500 subsidy for the 2nd semester.

Meanwhile, in his message, Congressman Espina believes that education is a treasure that students should value the most.

"Binibigyan ko ng importansiya ang edukasyon sapagkat kayo ang sumusunod na herasyon na bubuo ang ating komunidad, kayo ang susunod na mga teacher, kayo ang susunod na mga ehenyero, mga susunod na breadwinner ng iyong mga pamilya," Cong. Espina said.

BiPSU scheduled a week-long release of the cash grants to ensure the observance of the minimum health protocols.
