Biliran Province State University adds another feather to its cap after marking its debut in UI Greenmetric World University Rankings 2024, ranking 19th in the Philippines and 633rd in the world among the 1,477 participating universities from 95 countries.
Though invited to the onsite awarding ceremonies at the University of São Paulo in Brazil, the university decided to attend the International Seminar and Award Ceremony via online today, December 12.
In this year’s world rankings, BiPSU recorded a total score of 6,240. In the six criteria, the University earned 1,130 in setting and infrastructure, 1,075 in energy and climate change, 750 in waste, 310 in water, 1,450 in transportation, and 1,525 in education and research.
Initiated by the Universitas Indonesia in 2010, the world university rankings, later known as UI Greenmetric World University Rankings measures the campus sustainability efforts, intended to create an online survey to portray sustainability policies and programs for universities around the world.
Meanwhile, it analyzes numerical data submitted by participating universities to generate scores that reflect the extent to which institutions are actively implementing environmentally friendly and sustainable programs.
A total of 64 Philippine Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) , with De Lasalle University- Dasmarinas ranking 1st, made it into this world ranking this year. Globally, a total of 1,477 HEIs participated in the rigorous assessment process.
With this year's theme, "Instituting UI GreenMetric: The Way Forward," the event focused on universities’ efforts to continue their sustainability programs and policies to become sustainable universities based on UI GreenMetric and SDGs.
BiPSU President, Dr. Victor C. Cañezo, Jr. expressed immense pride in the university's debut in the UI Greenmetric World University Rankings 2024, noting it as a result of the institution's continuous commitment to sustainability.
He also recognized the hard work of the UI Greenmetric application team, which he chaired, alongside co-chairs Joedel Peñaranda, executive assistant to the President, and Atty. Dick Guiller Delfin, director of BiPSU's Internationalization Affairs, and its members, for their collaborative effort in securing the university's place in this world ranking.
“This is just the beginning, we will continue the weaving of worthiness and strengthen our sustainability programs, aligning them with global standards, as we strive to become more responsive to the needs of both local and global communities," he proudly stated.
