Biliran Province State University (BiPSU) organized a mental health awareness symposium for students on April 24 at the university gymnasium. The event, facilitated by the Guidance and Counseling Services Office (GCSO), aimed to promote student well-being.
University officials, including Dr. Erwin G. Salvatierra, Vice President for Student and External Affairs (VP SEA), and Mrs. Jocelyn C. Caing, University Guidance Counselor, attended the symposium alongside students and guidance coordinators from different schools.
Dr. Salvatierra emphasized the importance of mental well-being for students facing societal and academic pressures. He explained that the symposium aimed to help students understand and assess their own mental health.
"The focus is on breaking the stigma surrounding mental health and creating a supportive environment for everyone," Dr. Salvatierra said.
Students participated in discussions led by speaker Mr. Ricardo De Asis. Topics covered included understanding mental health, building resilience, managing relationships, digital well-being, and social media awareness. The session concluded with a workshop designed to help students bond and learn more about themselves.
The GCSO previously held a similar mental health symposium for faculty on March 8th, reflecting the university's commitment to promoting a supportive work environment.
