Biliran Province State University through the School of Graduate Studies Empowers Educational Community with Groundbreaking Disaster Risk Reduction Seminar Workshop

In a concerted effort to fortify the Biliran Division against potential disasters, the School of Graduate Studies at Biliran Province State University has successfully concluded a year-long Seminar Workshop on National Disaster Risk Reduction. Running from January 2022 to December 2022, the program engaged secondary and elementary school heads, along with public secondary school students.

The innovative seminar workshop, held within the state-of-the-art facilities of Biliran Province State University, made extensive use of resources such as the gymnasium, student center, and university hostel. This strategic utilization aimed to provide a practical and immersive learning experience for the participants.

The course content covered vital aspects of disaster management, encompassing Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, Disaster Preparedness, Disaster Response, and Disaster Rehabilitation and Recovery. Participants delved into real-world scenarios, utilizing the university's facilities and equipment to simulate and understand the intricacies of disaster preparedness and response.

The overarching goals of the workshop were ambitious yet essential for fostering a resilient educational community in Biliran. Firstly, the program sought to orient public secondary school heads, teachers, students, and parents to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Plan outlined by the Philippine government. This foundational knowledge equips participants with a comprehensive understanding of the nation's disaster management strategy.

Secondly, the workshop facilitated the proposal of localized and contextualized school-based activities related to disaster risk management. By tailoring initiatives to the specific needs and challenges of the Biliran Division, the program aimed to instill a sense of proactive engagement and responsibility among students and educators.

A notable aspect of the seminar workshop was the emphasis on crafting school-based policies, regulations, guidelines, and protocols to address preparedness for both natural and man-made disasters. The use of Biliran Province State University's facilities added a practical dimension to this process, allowing participants to envision and enact these strategies in real-world settings.
