Dr. Cañezo on BiPSU’s Founding Anniv: ‘We will highlight research and innovation’

"Unlike previous years, where cultural shows were at the forefront, this time we are concentrating on research and innovation," University President Dr. Victor C. Cañezo, Jr. said during the flag-raising ceremonies this morning.

In a message delivered on Monday, August 12, to the faculty and staff of Biliran Province State University (BiPSU), President Dr. Cañezo outlined the institution's plans for the upcoming Founding Anniversary celebrations, placing a strong emphasis on research, innovation, and extension activities.

Dr. Cañezo announced that the celebrations will start on August 29 and continue until February 13, 2025. To minimize disruptions to academic activities, the events will be scheduled exclusively on Wednesdays.

"One of our primary goals is to address concerns from the Educational Commission regarding the impact of unscheduled activities on the quality of our students' education," Dr. Cañezo stated. "By organizing our events in this structured and seamless manner, we can maintain our commitment to delivering quality education while also celebrating our university's proud history."

He also noted that the extended celebration period reflects the various founding anniversaries that BiPSU has to commemorate. The university president emphasized that the extended celebration is necessary because BiPSU has multiple founding anniversaries to honor.

“These include the establishment of the Naval Institute of Technology (NIT) as a state college on August 31, 1972; the groundbreaking of the high school on October 30, 1945; the conversion to Naval State University through RA 9718 on October 14, 2009; and the renaming from NSU to Biliran Province State University (BiPSU) through RA 11170 on January 3, 2019,” he explained.

The President also highlighted that the opening day on August 29 will focus on research, innovation, and extension activities.

“We will invite partners from agencies such as the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to further enhance BiPSU’s capabilities,” he added.

Moreover, Dr. Cañezo mentioned that there will be a research expo at the Student Center, showcasing the university’s research outputs on August 29.

He reiterated that sports activities planned for August 30 will include exhibition games organized by the Sports Development Office, led by Director Engr. Carmel Sigrid Docallos. He encouraged faculty and employee associations to arrange sports activities for staff, which will also be held on Wednesdays to prevent any disruption to classes.

As BiPSU prepares to commemorate, Dr. Cañezo emphasized that the focus on research, innovation, and quality education will continue to drive the university forward, ensuring its growth and success in the years to come.

“I hope that we will all be involved and enjoy our journey here at BiPSU,” he noted.
