Skills development, camaraderie, and fun were centered on the 3-day school celebration of the School of Engineering (SOE), dubbed as SOElympics 2022, last July 18–20.
As a prelude to the Biliran Province State University’s golden anniversary celebration as a higher education institution, SOE officially launched the celebration with a town parade and a seminar on mental health awareness.
In his message during the opening of the Olympics, University President Dr. Victor C. Canezo, Jr. assured his continued support to the School of Engineering and underscored that SOE’s undertakings towards excellence have contributed to BiPSU’ new feat, the QR 3- star Rating.
"The School of Engineering is top two in BiPSU’s schools with the highest passing percentage, and I have to say that you have contributed to the university’s QR Rating, especially in the areas of passing percentage and alumni," Dr. Canezo said.
Meanwhile, during the celebration, students and employees were grouped into four, namely, teams Ibex, Viper, Eagle, and Lion.
Demonstrating that the engineering school’s mantra #SOExcellence is still upheld even in a festive celebration, engineering students and the school’s teaching and non-teaching personnel participated in various skills-driven activities and competitions, including the engineering technology fair, where inventions and engineering innovations were showcased; quiz bowl, math wizard, programming, amazing race, poster making, speed drawing, e-games, and bridge building.
The wit and artistry of the students were also showcased during the student’s night, where students battled in an extemporaneous speaking contest, vocal solo, folk dance, and hip-hop dance.
The Eagle Team flew to the top with pride and honor, having 28 gold, 9 silver, and 24 bronze in their final tally, outnumbering the other three strong teams.
Moreover, the faculty and students also participated in the basketball exhibition games and a seminar on basic fire safety engineering requirements, which concluded the celebration.
