BiPSU key officials attend QS Higher Education Summit in Malaysia; forge partnership with an international university

Biliran Province State University (BiPSU) President Dr. Victor C. Cañezo, Jr., and Vice President for Student and External Affairs (VP SEA) Dr. Erwin G. Salvatierra, joined the Philippine delegation for the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Higher Education Summit: Asia Pacific 2023 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, held from November 7 to 9 under the theme "Creating the Right Outcomes: Universities and the Future of Work in the Asia Pacific."

The summit convened leaders from universities, government, and industry to deliberate on the latest trends and challenges in higher education. Discussions focused on how universities can equip students for the evolving landscape of the future workforce and society, addressing the development of creativity, adaptability, and critical thinking skills in students, industry engagement for talent development, new areas in industry research partnerships, and the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the sector.

BiPSU, represented by Dr. Cañezo and Dr. Salvatierra, formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Kalasalingam University, India, during the summit. This strategic partnership aims to facilitate collaborative research, faculty and student exchange programs, and the co-creation of knowledge in alignment with the dynamic demands of the global workforce.

Dr. Cañezo expressed his honor in joining the Philippine delegation at the summit, acknowledging the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) for the opportunity.

Moreover, Dr. Salvatierra highlighted the summit's key aspects, including panel discussions and collaborative efforts among universities. He also shared insights gained from benchmarking Asia Pacific University (APU), where they observed the university's practices, facilities, and environment.

“Different topics i-discuss nila ngadto. Kasagaran mga panel discussions about topics like AI and student mobility. It’s high time pud during that time na mga head of the universities mag-collaborate. They can have student exchange, faculty exchange, and collaboration of research. Ang mga heads didto magkitaay during break time or tea time unya mag-inistoryahay ug ma-exchange ug mga calling cards. That’s the start of building relationships,” Dr. Salvatierra noted.

“We were also able to benchmark one of the universities which APU. Nakita namo ang mga facilities like library, ilang guidance office. . .So far, maayo ang APU and nakig-coordinate si Sir Victor [with the university],” he added.

The QS Higher Education Summit: Asia Pacific 2023 attracted over 1000 attendees from the Asia-Pacific region and beyond, contributing to advancements in the higher education landscape.
