University Futures Program Launched; 30 BiPSUnistas to undergo University Futures and Foresight Course

Thirty (30) BiPSUnistas comprised of top management officials and personnel from the Planning, Research & Innovation Office are set to undergo Capacity Building Course on University Futures and Foresight in the coming weeks.

“As we open this new door in our Futures-Thinking Learning Journey Map, may we be gently nudged that this would not have been possible if it were not for the amazing ‘futures’ pillars of the country. Notably, this workshop will chart us in a direction where we can best use the blessings provided by the Filipino people and by the Office of Senator Cayetano, Chairperson of the Senate Committee on SDGs, Innovation, and Futures-Thinking through the GAA 2022, in the form of Capacity Development for Futures-Thinking and Strategic Foresign worth 2M for each of our SUC,” University President Dr. Victor C. Cañezo, Jr. stressed in his remarks.

The awaited university futures program for state universities in the country including BiPSU is a sequel to the Regional Futures Consortium Workshop: High-Level Anticipatory Leadership and Governance Executive Course which region 8 SUCs undertook on February 18, 2022.

“I am confident that Aptissimi Development Innovations, Inc., our training service provider would help us navigate the respective futures of our universities, together with Samar State University,” President Canezo further stressed.

BiPSU is grouped with Samar State University (SSU) as both have common ‘futures’ commodities which later on will be used in research and development. For BiPSU, its commodities are 1) Food research and development; 2) Culture and ecotourism; and 3) Process innovation and futures research.

The Institutional Planning Office (IPO), led by its Director Mr. Joedel Penaranda serves as the focal unit at the university on strategic foresight and futures-thinking activities. The office is concurrently linked to the Strategic Innovation and Knowledge Laboratories (SIKLAB).

The launch was attended by Mr. Noel de Guia, Director for Strategic Partnerships & Linkages, Philippine Futures-Thinking Society; and Resident Futurist at the Senate Committee on Sustainable Development Goals, Innovation, & Futures-Thinking, Ms. Ma. Christine F. Reyes, Director of the Aptissimi Development Innovations Inc., Dr. Marilyn D. Cardoso, President of Samar State University (SSU), and SSU’s participants to the course.
