Senate comsec visits BiPSU for DOST-funded initiatives survey

Senate and Committe on Science and Technology Secretary Bernadine B. Mahinay graced the monitoring of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-funded projects and programs at the Biliran Province State University, May 13.

BiPSU presented updates on the status of the DOST-funded projects and discussed matters pertinent to the implementation of the funded projects.

Projects and programs funded by the department include the Food Processing through ISS facility, Ginger and Turmeric Powder and Tea Production facility, Technology-based Interventions to the Marginalized Communities of Biliran Province, and Community Empowerment through Science and Technology Interventions for the Economically Challenged Community of Brgy. Villa Cornejo in Kawayan and Brgy. Julita in Biliran.

BiPSU university president Dr. Victor Cañezo Jr. expressed his gratitude to DOST for the constant and unwavering support as partner agency that fueled to continue, improve, and strengthen the university’s services to the communities and external stakeholders.

“DOST has been the benchmark at which we push ourselves further as an institution not only in the name of the external funding  that DOST provides but to be relevant to our communities and to contribute to the nation’s innovation index,” Dr. Cañezo said.

Along with Comsec. Bernadine B. Mahinay are DOST8 Regional Director and BiPSU Board of Regents member Engr. Ernesto M. Granada; DOST Director of the Department of Legislative Liaison Office Lita S. Suerte Felipe; Assistant Regional Director for Technical Marilyn O. Radam; Assistant Regional Director for Finance and Administrative Services Rufino E Mengote; DOST8 SETUP program Coordinator Mae Anne D. Reyes; DOST8 CEST Program Coordinator Dr. Ramil T. Uy; DOST8 GIA Program Coordinator Lucia Dauz; and DOST Biliran Provincial Director Romeo L. Dignos.

Moreover, Dir. Felipe expressed her gratitude to BiPSU for the support given to DOST and for showcasing the products of DOST and the local technologies developed by Filipino scientists, innovators and inventors.

“And we enjoy the support of the academic community in really bringing science and technology and innovations in the provinces up to the grassroots level which is the barangay level,” she said.
