DepComm, CAG, The Pillar collaborate for SUBOL Film Workshop and Concept Pitching

In line with the National Arts Month (NAM) 2024 celebration, the Department of Communication (DepComm), Communication Arts Guild (CAG), and the Pillar Publication of Biliran Province State University (BiPSU) joined forces to organize the Film Workshop and Concept Pitching on Wednesday, February 29. The event, held at the University Hostel Function Hall A, was part of the lineup of activities for the 5th SUBOL Arts Festival.

Themed, “Ani ng Sining, Bayang Malikhain,” the activity workshop aimed to equip participants with the requisite skills in filmmaking to create high-quality short and documentary films.

In his welcome message, Dr. John Cavin M. Sabonsolin, DepComm Chairperson, emphasized the importance of films in creating a journey for both the characters on screen and the audience.

“In every film that we do, it must be a journey not only to the characters on screen but for the audience as well,” said Dr. Sabonsolin.

“It is about taking them on a ride they’d never forget,” he added.

The activity featured three esteemed resource speakers, including Mr. Mark Roland A. Romas, an internationally multi-awarded filmmaker, and a reporter and content producer at GMA Network; Mr. Januar E. Yap, an Executive Member of the National Committee on Literary Arts of the National Commission for Culture and Arts (NCCA), and Mr. Aubry Lerio, the director and owner of aFilm Production, which is a Cebu City-based production company.

Mr. Romas presented the first topic, titled “Docufilm Production: How to Create Contents and Translate it to Video.” Mr. Yap followed with the second talk, entitled “Short Film Production,” while Mr. Lerio shared his knowledge of cinematography in the last discussion, which was “Cinematography Tips in Shooting DIY/Low Budget Films.”

The workshop concluded with a concept pitching session and an open forum, providing aspiring filmmakers with practical tips and techniques for film production.

The SUBOL Film Festival entries deadline is set for March 13, with the viewing of entries and the awards ceremony scheduled for March 15.
