Regional Futures Consortium Workshop for Region 8 SUCs reels off

Representatives from the ten (10) state universities and colleges (SUCs) in region 8, comprised of Presidents, Vice Presidents for Planning & Development, and Futures-Thinking (FT) focal persons attended today’s opening program for the Regional Futures Consortium Workshop: High-Level Anticipatory Leadership and Governance Executive Course held via video conferencing.

Running through a hybrid format from February 15-18, the participants will work on a total of five (5) modules that center on Anticipatory Leadership & Governance and the use of Regional Futures Framework.

The Philippine Futures-Thinking Society (PhilFutures) has been chosen as the learning partner of the SUCs in collaboration with the Pangandoy sa Hiraya: The Futures-Thinking Consortium of HEIs in Eastern Visayas.

“We are here today in recognition and in humility that Futures-Thinking is new to us. We are privileged and lucky to have been funded by the Office of Senator Cayetano, Chairperson of the Senate Committee on SDGs, Innovation, and Futures-Thinking through the GAA 2022. We give thanks to the PhilFutures team as well for agreeing to be our learning partner for this Regional Futures Consortium Workshop: High-Level Anticipatory Leadership and Governance Executive Course,” Dr. Victor C. Canezo, Jr., President of Biliran Province State University (BiPSU) and the consortium’s chairperson shared in his message during the opening program.

Also present during the opening program was CHED Commissioner and PhilFutures Senior Fellow, Dr. Aldrin A. Darilag who primarily initiated the creation of the regional FT consortium in Eastern Visayas last year. In his message, Dr. Darilag emphasized the main objectives of the consortium as “it shall lead to establishing an invigorated and united front among the higher education leaders in the region to think ahead, foresee a ‘vision’ for their institutions, and build collaboratively a mutually inclusive roadmap towards a future-proofed Philippine higher education in the context of regional development and thrusts.”
