Biliran Province State University's (BiPSU) Teatro Biliran, under the Cultural Affairs and Development Unit (CADU), marked its revival with the debut of "Pulis, Sundalo, Gubat..." trilogy, exploring themes of women's experiences in love, hope, and peace. The premiere took place on March 6 at the BiPSU Gymnasium.
Directed by Mr. Felipe D. Bacay and produced by Mr. Kevin C. Tanguihan and Mr. Jeson V. Viñas, the trilogy comprised three narratives: "Tuturuan Kitang Magmahal Muli," "May Isang Sundalo," and "Hapa, Kay Naay Hapon."
"Tuturuan Kitang Magmahal Muli" by Wilmari C. Borrinaga revolves around the challenges faced by a teacher married to a police officer mourning the loss of their newborn son.
"May Isang Sundalo" by Mr. Rene O. Villanueva tells the story of a composed soldier discussing an armed struggle in Samar with an outspoken prostitute.
"Hapa, Kay Naay Hapon," by Mr. Filipe C. Bacay, narrates the account of a childless couple who fled out of danger during World War II.
Speaking at a media conference on March 4, Mr. Bacay emphasized the diverse messages conveyed by the trilogy, spanning marital relationships, peace and order in Samar, and the historical backdrop of World War II.
"I hope that this production really will impact the viewers because, as I said, we're not talking about one message, one play because this (talks about) marital relationship, then the other one is about peace and order in Samar, and the other one is about WW II, so lain lain siya ug impact sa audience," Mr. Bacay said.
Teatro Biliran is set to participate in the 18th TANGHAL University and Community-based Theater Festival at Siddhartha Theater, Guang Ming College in Cebu City on March 18.
