BiPSU ULRC wraps up 33rd LIS Month with emphasis on library importance

Biliran Province State University's (BiPSU) University Learning Resource Center (ULRC) recently concluded its month-long celebration of the 33rd Library and Information Services (LIS) Month with the theme, "LETS LIBRARIES: Learning, Empowering, and Transforming Society Through Libraries," on November 30.

Held at the University Hostel, the event underscored the crucial role of libraries in the digital age, amid the growing prevalence of online platforms.

Mr. Joe Bryan Cadiente, College Librarian, highlighted the event's significance in promoting student engagement and ensuring information accessibility within learning hubs, saying, "This is a time to recognize the invaluable contributions libraries make in fostering knowledge, information access, and community engagement.”

The culminating event included an award ceremony for the winners of various competitions organized by BiPSU ULRC. Shaina Mae Ares from the School of Arts and Sciences (SAS) claimed the top spot in a photography competition conveying the essence of literature. Jimlord Ebajan (SAS) and Joeliza Mae Bonto (School of Engineering, SOE) secured the second and third places, respectively.

In the Pixels of Wisdom: Digital Poster Challenge, Mervic Rosales (School of Management and Entrepreneurship, SME) took the first place, followed by Jerico S. Gaviola (School of Teacher Education, STEd) in second place, and Jhane Mae Saludar in third place.

BiPSU ULRC also acknowledged the Top Library Borrowers in both faculty and student categories. Banisa M. Tabuldan (School of Criminal Justice Education, SCJE) topped the faculty category, followed by Hazel S. Espejo (SAS) and Jane Ann A. Genoguin (SME) in second and third places, respectively. Joy S. Garcia (School of Nursing and Health Sciences, SNHS) claimed the top spot in the student category, with Eliza Mae O. Sister (SAS) and Sandralane C. Radam (SNHS) securing the second and third places, respectively.

The 4th University Book Fair Awards saw the School of Technology and Computer Studies (STCS) recognized as the school with the highest number of attendees, while STEd emerged as the school with the highest number of book selections.

The annual LIS Month celebration reflects BiPSU ULRC's commitment to fostering a vibrant learning environment where libraries remain essential resources for students and the wider community.
