In celebration of its conversion from a state college to a full-fledged university by virtue of Republic Act 9718, Biliran Province State University marked its 13th universityhood last October 14.
BiPSU, the premier state university in the province of Biliran, formerly known as the Naval Institute of Technology (NIT) was converted to a State University pursuant to RA 9718 which took effect last October 14, 2009.
Highlighting the celebration was the inauguration of the new Agriculture Fishery and Natural Resources (AFNR) laboratory equipment and facilities, which include the Pig Husbandry Training Center, poultry, green house and cattle house, and the newly renovated University Learning Resource Center (ULRC) at BiPSU Biliran Campus.
In his message, University President Dr. Victor C. Cañezo Jr. expressed his gratitude to the Lone Representative of the District of Biliran, Congressman Gerardo "Gerryboy" Espina Jr., for supporting the projects and initiatives of the university.
"BiPSU has been dreaming of this (new facilities in BilCam) for a long time," he said. "Thanks to the General Appropriations Act (GAA) for including the 21M worth of AFNR laboratory equipment and facilities."
Meanwhile, Lone Representative of the District of Biliran, Cong. Espina Jr., who served as the guest of honor, commended BiPSU and its university president for the success of the university on the implementation of its projects.
"Malaki ang maitutulong ko para sa BiPSU," Cong. Espina Jr. stressed. "Bilang inyong Congressman, mapalad inyo dahil po ako rin ang Vice Chairman ng Committee on Appropriations, sa Appropriations Committee po binabagsak ang lahat ng pondo ng ahensiya ng ating gobyerno, at bilang Vice Chairman, may boses po tayo diyan.”
(There’s a lot I can help with for BiPSU. Aside from being the Congressman, I am also the Vice Chairman of the Committee on Appropriations, in the Appropriations Committee, all the funds of our government agencies are distributed, and as Vice Chairman, we have a voice there.)
Moreover, various activities transpired during the celebration, including the presentations of the champions of the different competitions held during BiPSU’s golden founding anniversary last August 30, and the distribution of 10,000 health kits to BiPSU students spearheaded by the University Medical Unit.
The 13th universityhood celebration concluded with the students’ and employees’ night which transpired at the university oval.
