Biliran Province State University (BiPSU), through the Office of Extension Services and Societal Impact (OESSI) and the School of Business and Management (SBM), concluded today, September 17, 2026, a financial literacy and enterprise-management extension activity for beneficiaries of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) in Almeria, Biliran.

Dubbed “Livelihood Advancement through Money Management, Bookkeeping, and Opportunities – A Financial Literacy Extension Activity for DSWD Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) Beneficiaries in Almeria, Biliran,” the initiative was implemented with DSWD Field Office VIII–Sustainable Livelihood Program and the Local Government Unit of Almeria as extension partners. The activity was designed to serve 140 SLP beneficiaries in the municipality.

Held at the Annex Hall, Almeria Municipal Hall, the activity provided practical learning sessions on Simplified Bookkeeping, Basic Cash Flow, Product Costing, and Basic Marketing—competencies intended to help livelihood beneficiaries better record transactions, monitor cash movement, determine product costs, make informed pricing decisions, and strengthen their basic market orientation.

SBM faculty members Mr. Norman Andales, Mr. Ric Herbert Curso, and Mr. James Lambit served as resource persons. Andales handled Product Costing and Basic Marketing, Curso discussed Simplified Bookkeeping, while Lambit facilitated the session on Basic Cash Flow. The training also incorporated demonstrations, guided exercises, small-group coaching, and an integrated enterprise-management workshop to enable participants to apply the concepts to practical livelihood situations.

Beyond the technical discussions, the activity incorporated practical worksheets and action planning designed to encourage participants to apply financial and enterprise-management practices to their respective livelihood activities. Participants were also expected to prepare a 30-day financial or livelihood action plan as part of the intervention.

The initiative responds to a capability-building request from DSWD Field Office VIII for its SLP beneficiaries and reflects BiPSU’s continuing commitment to bringing University expertise directly to communities through relevant and needs-based extension programs. The LGU of Almeria, as an extension partner, also supported the local coordination and logistical requirements of the activity.

The activity likewise supports efforts toward poverty reduction, lifelong learning, entrepreneurship, and more sustainable livelihood management by equipping beneficiaries with practical financial and enterprise-management skills that can be applied to their livelihood undertakings.

Dr. Alvin L. Ampong, Director of the Office of Extension Services and Societal Impact, formally closed the activity by thanking the participants and the University’s extension partners for their support and active participation. He assured them that BiPSU remains ready to extend its technical expertise whenever needed, emphasizing the University’s commitment to responding to the needs of communities through relevant, responsive, and sustainable extension initiatives.
