Biliran Province State University (BiPSU), in collaboration with the Biliran Provincial Local Government Unit (PLGU) and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) of Biliran, jointly organized a capacity training session for barangay violence against women and children (BVAWC) desk officers. The event took place on April 16 at the BiPSU gymnasium.
The training session was attended by barangay officials representing various barangays across the eight municipalities of the province. Present in the event were Dr. Archie T. Ramirez, Dean of the School of Criminal Justice Education (SCJE); Hon. Gerard Roger M. Espina, Biliran Provincial Governor; Ms. Carolina O. Ampong, DILG-OIC Cluster Head; Atty. Corazon Aguilar-David, the resource speaker; and SCJE faculty members and students.
Dr. Ramirez emphasized the training's objective to equip barangay officials with the necessary knowledge to address and mitigate domestic violence within their communities. He urged the participants to utilize the skills acquired during the training to foster a safe and secure environment for women and children.
During her presentation titled "Skills and Enhancement Training: An Imperative to Make the Barangay Officials Effective, Efficient, Accountable, and Laudable in the Delivery of Public Service," Atty. David provided insights into enhancing public service. She underscored the pivotal role of barangay councils and emphasized the importance of collaboration with local authorities in tackling criminal and domestic violence cases.
The capacity training initiative stems from a memorandum of agreement (MOA) between BiPSU, PLGU, and DILG Biliran. Its overarching goal is to empower barangay officials through targeted training sessions and developmental programs.
