Biliran Province State University's (BiPSU) official tertiary student publication, The Pillar Publication, clinched two awards at the 2nd National Campus Journalism Convention organized by Transforming Advocates and Champions (TRAC). Held from April 28 to 30 at the Manila Grand Opera Hotel, the event drew over 300 campus journalists from 63 universities nationwide.
The convention aimed to foster camaraderie among participants and recognize excellence in journalism through various competitions and engaging discussions on campus journalism's role in promoting peaceful, democratic, and inclusive societies.
Under the theme "Campus Journalism as a tool for peaceful, democratic, and inclusive societies," the Pillar Publication contestants excelled in both individual and group categories. Gil Irinco, the publication's Section Editors' Head, emerged as the Champion for Editorial Writing- Filipino. The campus journalism vlog team, comprising Ina Villato, Mitchel Klaire I. Durango, and Jake Ryan Mangubat, secured the 2nd runners-up position in the Campus Journalism Vlog competition.
Led by Ms. Florabelle Corpin, the Pillar adviser, and Ms. Precious Mae T. Alcero, a faculty member of the School of Arts and Sciences (SAS), the BiPSU delegation showcased the university's competence throughout the three-day convention.
The event also featured distinguished speakers, including Commissioner Ronald Adamat from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), TV personality Boy Abunda, sports journalist Severino Sarmento Jr., Samira Gutoc, and radio personality DJ Jhai Ho.
