Biliran Province State University (BiPSU), through the office of Climate Change and Mitigation Disaster Risk Reduction Management, conducted the Incident Command System Familiarization and earthquake drill last August 18 at the university grounds.
The said activity was conducted in support of the global sustainable program on climate action and university disaster preparedness, as the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management (NDRRM) urged public schools to conduct regular or semestral earthquake drills.
Moreover, University President Dr. Victor C. Cañezo, Jr., urged students, faculty, and administrative staff to become disaster resilient.
"Region 8 Eastern Visayas is always prone to disasters and calamities, so because of this, we should learn to live with this disaster," the university president said.
Meanwhile, Mr. Sofronio Dacillo, representative of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO); and Municipality Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDDRRMO), Mr. Raul Villordon, graced the said event and reminded the public of the importance of complying with the Presidential Decree No. 1096, also known as the National Building Code of the Philippines, a law created to provide a framework of minimum standards and guidelines for Philippine buildings.
"Earthquakes do not kill, but their impact and our attitude towards earthquakes kill.” Mr. Dacillo said.
Moreover, the BiPSU School of Criminal Justice (SCJE), School of Nursing and Health Sciences (SNHS), Naval Rescue Unit, Biliran Provincial Hospital (BPH), Naval Bureau of Fire, Philippine National Police, Naval Reserved Command, and Philippine Army Reserved Command also participated in the simultaneous earthquake drill.
