At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Biliran Province State University proved its commitment to expansion and development as it officially inaugurated its newly constructed buildings, May 31.
Within two years, BiPSU completed a new set of infrastructures including the Automotive Building (Php 34,899,911.75), Academic and Wellness Center (Php 17,934,501.66), Ceramics Building (Php 7,974,381.50), Technology Building (Php 155,595,359.99), Sports Center (Php 27,353,908.20), Student Center on the Main Campus (Php 53,081,928.54), and Dormitory on the Biliran Campus (Php 16, 595, 000.00). Buildings were also renovated including the Gymnasium of the Main Campus amounting to Php 31,947,355.15.
University President Dr. Victor C. Cañezo, Jr. emphasized in his message during the inaugural activity that BiPSU's construction of the various infrastructure facilities is a manifestation of the University's commitment to providing the best quality of education to its students by upgrading and constructing state-of-the-art facilities.
“Today's ceremonial inaugural activity represents our victory in the weaving of worthiness,” Dr. Cañezo said. “We will be inaugurating the different infrastructure projects of the university, which are manifestations of this administration's relentless effort and initiatives and are testaments of the progressive growth and development of the Biliran Province State University throughout the years.”
Moreover, Dr. Cañezo added that the University should aim to surpass previous performances by strengthening collaboration with the Biliran Province administration, the Commission on Higher Education, and other government organizations in order to always achieve excellence.
Dr. Cañezo, who pledged during the first year of his term as the University President to accomplish 25 infrastructure projects before his 4-year term ends next year, has already completed 24 infra projects. The School of Nursing and Health Sciences (SNHS) building, on the other hand, is to be implemented in the Fiscal Year 2022.
Meanwhile, CHED Commissioner and Chairperson of BiPSU's Board of Regents, Dr. Aldrin A. Darilag, was invited to inaugurate the buildings.
In his message, he stressed that BiPSU's construction of buildings symbolizes the University's development into a future-proof and future-ready institution, responding to the growing needs of BiPSU's learners and educators. “These structures amplify the mission of the University to advance the university through innovative human resources, responsive, research, sustainable production, and demand-driven extension services,” he added.
Moreover, members of the BiPSU Board of Regents, the highest governing body of the University, also attended the celebration including Hon. Bonifacio G. Uy, NEDA VIII Regional Director; Hon. Angel C. Enriquez, Regional Executive Director of Department of Agriculture Regional Office VIII; Dr. Maximo C. Aljibe, CHED VIII Regional Director; Hon. Ernesto M. Granada, DOST VIII Regional Director; Hon. Vennie G. Coton, Faculty Regent; Hon. Jesus Regner Sta. Iglesia, Student Regent; Hon. Jerome T. Arcenal, Representative of Cong. Mark Go of House of CHTE Chair; Hon. Sammy A. Sale, Representative of Sen. Joel Villanueva of Senate CHTE Chair, and Private Sector Representatives, Hon. Marvin James A. Lo and Hon. Alex L. Solamo.
Dr. Aljibe encouraged both faculty and students to value the newly-constructed infrastructure facilities at the University.
"Hopefully kung anong ginanda ng iyong infrastructure, aasa akong lahat ng papasok o gagamit nito ay gagamit nang may pag-aaruga at pagmamahal," the Regional Director said.
Hon. Gerardo J. Espina Jr., Congressman of the Lone District of Biliran; and Hon. Gerard Roger M. Espina, Mayor of the Municipality of Naval and Biliran Governor-elect, who are partners of the University in its weaving of worthiness initiatives, were also present in the activity.
Meanwhile, aside from the infrastructure facilities, the University also obtained laboratory equipment. To name a few, the ARPA-RADAR (Full Mission Bridge Simulator with Complete Accessories) and various equipment totaling 22.78M for the BSMT program of the School of Maritime Education, and the SCADA power engineering equipment and 10M-worth Modernization of Engineering Laboratories for the Delivery of Cutting-Edge Higher Education for the School of Engineering.
