Black Soldier Fly Farming Initiative Launched at BiPSU-Biliran Campus

The Visayas State University (VSU) Department of Animal Science recently conducted a transformative workshop at the Biliran Province State University (BiPSU) Biliran Campus, introducing Black Soldier Fly (BSF) farming to promote sustainable agriculture. The initiative included an informative lecture, distribution of BSF farming starter kits, and guided site visits to demonstrate practical applications.

This collaboration aims to leverage insect-based farming to produce sustainable animal feed and reduce organic waste, addressing both agricultural and environmental challenges. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), BSF larvae are highly efficient at converting organic waste into protein-rich feed, organic fertilizer, and valuable oil, offering significant benefits for farmers and the ecosystem.

The program marks a step toward innovative, eco-friendly farming practices in the region, with BiPSU-Biliran poised to lead the way in sustainable agriculture. #WoWBiPSU
