Biliran Province State University's (BiPSU) Department of Economics took center stage on November 13 to commemorate Economic Financial Literacy Month 2023. Organized by the School of Arts and Sciences - Supreme Student Council (SAS-SSC) in collaboration with the Students of Economics Circle (SEC), the event, themed "Bayanihanomics: Sama-samang Pakikilahok para sa Matibay na Ekonomiya," featured a day-long series of activities at the university gymnasium.
The morning session kicked off with Mr. Virgilio Cinco, Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Registration Officer I, delivering a discussion on statistics for financial literacy budgeting, emphasizing the crucial role of budgeting for economics students. Following this informative talk, an engaging quiz bee unfolded, where students from various year levels showcased their intellectual prowess. Econ 1-B's Monave Jimenez secured the top spot with her wit.
The afternoon session began with a special message from Dr. Erwin G. Salvatierra, Vice President for Students and External Affairs (VP SEA), emphasizing collaboration and collective effort in building a resilient economy.
"It is a call for action for each of us to participate actively in our nation's economic journey. By working together, sharing knowledge, and supporting each other, we can create a strong and resilient economy that supports everyone," stated Dr. Salvatierra.
Fernando E. Quiroz Jr., BiPSU Head for Gender Research and Development, delved into data analytics and visualization during the afternoon, highlighting the intricacies of data collection and processes.
Adding a creative touch to the celebration, a talent competition showcased the diverse talents of economic students. BA Economics 3-B emerged victorious with their rendition of the classic Cebuano hit "Pasayawa Ko Day" by Dulce and Emil Losenada.
