Biliran Province State University (BiPSU) held the "Global Health Focus (GHF) Excellence Workshop: A Workshop on World University Rankings and Institutional Scientific Research Strengthening,” on January 17 to 18 at the university gymnasium.
The two-day event aimed to equip BiPSU's teaching personnel with knowledge and strategies to elevate the institution's research efforts, facilitating the publication of papers in Scopus-indexed journals.
On the first day, renowned speakers, Dr. Don Eliseo III Lucero-Prisno and Mr. Jericho Ogaya, led discussions on navigating the scientific publishing landscape during the workshop, where they focused on building a university research culture, internationalization strategies, and understanding global university rankings.
Moreover, Dr. Prisno, the founder of Global Health Focus (GHF), shared expertise on developing critical thinkers, leaders, researchers, and innovators through GHF's initiatives, emphasizing research capacity building activities and knowledge creation.
In a welcome message, Dr. Roland A. Niez, Vice President for Research, Innovation, and Extension Services (VP RIES), emphasized the purpose of the two-day workshop, expressing that the event signifies a notable progression in the collective pursuit of academic excellence and research advancement. He mentioned that as participants gather to examine the effectiveness of world university rankings and strategies to strengthen institutional scientific research, they embark on a journey aligned with the commitment to fostering knowledge, innovation, and academic distinction.
Furthermore, BiPSU President Dr. Victor C. Cañezo, Jr., underscored the significance of the upcoming workshop for BiPSU's instructors and professors, highlighting the university's dedication to international recognition and responsiveness to local and global needs. He expressed that the awaited day, particularly for university instructors and professors focused on teaching and research, marks a crucial moment for Biliran Province State University. Dr. Cañezo stated that, effective this year, the university will embark on a new vision, aiming to become BIPSU, an internationally recognized institution attuned to the needs of the local and global communities.
The second day focused on practicalities, offering sessions on Developing a Globally Competitive Research Agenda, Grant Writing, Resource Generation through Research, Developing Impactful Scientific Journals, and Collaboration and Cooperation in Global Research Impact.
During the closing program, BiPSU formalized a memorandum of agreement with GHF to enhance the university's research and innovation, specifically focusing on publishing papers in Scopus-indexed journals. This collaboration aims to elevate BiPSU's ranking on world university platforms through engagement with GHF.
