BiPSU wraps up 2023 Science and Math Month with a culminating event

Biliran Province State University (BiPSU) concluded its celebration of Science and Math Month on September 28, led by the People Who Understand and Love Science Enigma (PULSE) organization. The culminating event took place at the BiPSU Gymnasium, marking an end to the 2023 Science and Math Month activities.

This annual celebration is in accordance with Proclamation No. 264, Series of 2012, issued by former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. The proclamation designates September as “National Science Club Month” and empowers various organizations, including the Philippine Society of Youth Science Clubs (PSYSC), Inc., Department of Education (DepEd), Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), and Science Club Advisors’ Association of the Philippines (SCAAP), Inc., to organize and execute activities related to the event.

The celebration was split into two main segments. The first part featured a launching program that included a poster-making competition and a quiz bee held on September 21. The second part highlighted the students' creativity through the Eco-Fashion show and Sci-Yaw event on September 28. The latter segment emphasized environmental preservation, aligning with critical sustainability goals.

The highlight of the culminating program was the awarding ceremony, where outstanding participants in various competitions were recognized for their exemplary performances.

In the Science Quiz Bee, the team from BiPSU Senior High School (SHS) Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS), known as HUMANISTAKO, emerged as the victors, showcasing their exceptional knowledge and skills. Additionally, Kevin Cean Yusoya from the School of Management and Entrepreneurship (SME) clinched the top spot in the poster-making contest.

In the SciYaw competition, Section Orchid from BiPSU Laboratory High School (LHS) outshone their competitors with their dance rendition of 'Karaniwang Tao,' earning them the coveted championship title.

The highly anticipated Eco-Fashion Show featured three categories: Ethnic Wear, Fun Wear, and Futuristic Wear. Gwen Ariana Cordeta and Kenneth Atok from the School of Teacher Education (STEd) triumphed in the Ethnic Wear category. Joebert Reyes and Mikaela Broñula, also from STEd, secured victory in the Fun Wear category. Finally, the Futuristic Wear category saw Thessa Belle Delfin, Chazonne M. Almazon, and Alfred Zacharii Intong from the School of Nursing and Health Sciences (SNHS) emerge as the winners.

The primary objective of these initiatives is to foster a greater appreciation for science among students. By engaging participants in educational and science-related activities, the organizers aim to underline the importance of science in our daily lives.

It's important to note that the competitions were open to both BiPSU college and high school students, providing a platform for them to showcase their skills and talents while promoting a love for science.
