Biliran Province State University-School of Nursing and Health Sciences (BiPSU-SNHS) witnessed a significant moment as second-year students donned their pins and caps during the 15th Capping, Badge Investiture, and Candle Lighting Ceremony 2023, held at the BiPSU Gymnasium on November 3.
The pinning and capping ceremony symbolized the students' transition from classroom learning to the practical application of their nursing skills while pledging to uphold the values of compassion, competence, and integrity.
The event commenced with the traditional processional and preliminary rituals, accompanied by the introduction of colors and a doxology. Dr. Jovy Dia R. Saniel, the SNHS Dean, delivered the opening remarks and led the ceremonial lighting of the nightingale’s lamp alongside Philippine Nurses Association (PNA) President Ms. Vanessa V. Ramirez, with the support of SNHS faculty.
Ms. Mariel B. Dayoha, the guest speaker, graced the stage with an inspiring message, emphasizing the importance of determination in the face of failures.
“Don’t worry if you don’t pass certain quizzes. Do not be discouraged. Ayaw pagpakaon sa fear na you might not finish, that you might not pass the exams and all. You need to be assertive and focused (don’t worry if you don’t pass certain quizzes. Do not be discouraged. Jomima D. Aling, an inducted student nurse from this year's batch, delivered a heartfelt student response, sharing their collective experiences that added depth and meaning to the ceremony.
Furthermore, BiPSU President Victor C. Canezo Jr. acknowledged the students' hard work and significant milestones in his Words of Felicitation.
“On behalf of the entire university, I commend you for your perseverance and dedication,” he said.
“To all of you here, may your caps and candles serve as a beacon of hope, a symbol of care, and a reminder of your profound responsibility,” he added.
The program continued with the Nightingale’s Pledge, led by Ms. Lovely E. Tapaya, a faculty member from SNHS, followed by the Nurse's Prayer, presented by Ms. Sheilomay A. Majait, Acting Chairman of SNHS-Research and Innovation, and a batch song performance.
The ceremony concluded with the closing remarks by Ms. Baby Danica N. Dalumpines, Acting Coordinator of Related Learning, who said, “To officially close this ceremony, to the newly pinned with badges and capped students and to the proud parents, on behalf of the School of Nursing and Health Sciences family, we welcome you all to the world of modern heroes. Congratulations! ”
