Weaving Worthiness in the Workplace: BiPSU primes ‘DaBIZ Husaypreneurs’ for industry demands

Bridging the gap between classroom theory and industry reality, the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) department of Biliran Province State University (BiPSU) gathered its incoming intern class for a comprehensive Pre-Deployment Orientation Seminar at the BiPSU Gymnasium.

Dubbed the "DaBIZ Husaypreneurs," the aspiring professionals—affectionately called "BIZtudyantes"—underwent a rigorous series of lectures designed to equip them with the necessary tools for the demands of the modern workforce. The event underscored the university's commitment to producing graduates who are not only academically competent but also work-ready and ethically grounded.

Dr. Christopher R. Vicera, Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences (SAS), set the tone for the event in his opening remarks. He reminded the students that the internship phase is a pivotal moment for career mapping rather than a mere checklist item in their curriculum.

"Kaning OJT, dili lang ni siya graduation requirement—yes, it’s a graduation requirement—but diha makita na'to what opportunity lies ahead (This OJT is not just a graduation requirement—yes, it’s a graduation requirement—but through it, we can see what opportunity lies ahead)," Dr. Vicera stated, urging the students to seize the opportunity to network and showcase their skills.

To navigate the complexities of professional environments, the seminar featured in-depth discussions led by Hon. Vennie G. Coton, Faculty Regent and OJT Coordinator for the Financial Management major, and Ms. Florabelle J. Corpin, OJT Head Coordinator. They walked the students through the critical guidelines, focusing on work ethics, punctuality, and proper office decorum. The session aimed to ensure that BiPSU interns maintain the institution's reputation for excellence while deployed in various partner agencies.

A crucial highlight of the orientation was the legal briefing provided by Atty. Sheena Estrella S. Bentor, BiPSU Legal Officer II. With businesses increasingly reliant on data, Atty. Bentor lectured on the nuances of the Data Privacy Act of 2012. She stressed the legal implications of mishandling information, urging the interns to exercise maximum vigilance and confidentiality regarding sensitive personal data they might encounter during their training.

Capping the activity was an empowering message from BSBA Chairperson Mr. Hans Christian V. Molina. Acknowledging the anxiety that often accompanies first-time industry immersion, he encouraged the students to view mistakes as learning opportunities.

"And to those who are afraid for their OJT, this is a time to remember—you are not expected to be perfect, you are expected to learn," Mr. Molina said.

He further challenged the group to embody the "Husaypreneur" spirit. He emphasized that by representing the school with pride and determination, the interns are actively participating in the university’s mission—a collective weaving of worthiness that ensures BiPSU graduates remain competitive and respected in the industry.

"Go out there with confidence... and never forget that this experience is not just about finishing a requirement, it is about building your future," Molina concluded.
