In its pursuits to be a research and development University, the Naval State University formally inaugurated the newly-established Food Research and Development Center (FRDC) at the Naval State University-Main Campus, January 28.
Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-8 OIC Regional Director Engr. Celerina T. Bato, Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-8 represented by Engr. Ramil Uy, DTI-Biliran Provincial Director Dr. Faustino V. Gayas, DOST-Biliran Provincial Director Dr. Romeo Dignos and NSU OIC President Dr. Victor C. Cañezo, Jr. led the blessing and inauguration of the said center.
This newly-established Food Research and Development Center (FRDC) is a collaborative project of DTI 8, DOST 8 and NSU. The three (3) agencies allocated fund counterparts for the purchase of equipment and facilities of the said research center: DTI 8 – Php 2, 566,250.00, DOST 8 – Php 788,000.00 and NSU – Php 1,318,532.27.
According to Dr. Cañezo, this center is a breakthrough in the research and development efforts of the University particularly on developing innovation in food processing like the native delicacies and coffee bean production in the province of Biliran.
“We are grateful enough to the DTI and DOST for partnering with us in our efforts to make the Naval State University a research and innovation hub in the entire province. This research center will also help our fellow Biliranons who are engaged into food processing as their avenue to develop new ideas and innovation”, he added.
